IB BLUITGEN (1921- 2013 )
Ib Bluitgen trained as a silversmith at the Georg Jensen Silversmithy and was awarded a silver medal, the top honor. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Sculpture from 1945 to 1948 and worked in the Georg Jensen Silversmithy design department from 1948 to 1962, becoming head of that department in 1950. His designs were fresh, modern and very Danish. Bluitgen opened his own studio in 1961 and was one of the founders of the Danish Crafts Council and an active member in the group, Danish Silversmiths which holds exhibitions of their work throughout the world.
Bluitgen's work has been exhihibited throughout Europe and North America and was part of a recent exhibit "Dansk Solv 2000" at the Kolding Museum in Kolding, Denmark. Bluitgen received awards at the Milan Triennale in 1954 and the Statens Kunstfornd prize in 1976.
